our debt for wars, for example, that were not paid for -- as i understand it when you pay for medicare and medicaid and some of the interests, everything else is paid for by loans. from china. if you want to talk about the numbers here, you have to talk about how to pay your bill. that's like having a conversation with your spouse, who i know and love, and you're going to talk around it but you're not going to look at the checkbook. that would be bologna and she wouldn't buy it either. >> in fact, you gave the answer paul ryan should have gave to chris wallace, tamron. >> really. >> that's what he should have said to chris wallace. we cannot afford to keep governing ourselves like this. bravo. in fact, we should call the rnc, they may have an opening at the rate we're going they're going to have openings come november 7th. >> i'm not up for hire, but thank you very much. great pleasure. thank you. up next, new reports say romney's advisers are divided over whether to attack president obama over libya or stay focused on the economy? this as the obama administration is still under fire o

their tax subsidies, he voted twice -- not once, but twice to end medicare by turning it over to private insurance companies. that's not providing a safety net. that is creating a promise for the people of the state of nevada. they node to know who's fighting for him and who's fighting for the big guys. time and again whatever my opponent says -- and he talks a good game. rather than standing with middle income nevada cans who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own, my opponent has been voting with wall street, voting with corporations that ship our jobs overseas, voting with big oil instead of taking care of business at home. you want to create jobs? don't give tax subsidies to big oil. invest in nevada's renewable energy companies. he voted against investing, investing in nevada's companies that are going to create good-paying jobs right here in the state of nevada. that's what nevada's senator has to do. >> moderator: thank you. senator heller, you have a minute to rebut. [laughter] heller: she has so many talking points, one by one we can rebut everything. >> she has said

. as you know, chris, carter was right, he had opposed medicare at the start but when reagan said, there you go again, it actually sort of discounted everything else that carter had said in that debate. so they've got to be organic, they've got to be natural, they've got to be real. i think everybody at least in the political class who has seen this report is going to be watching the debate to see if we can sort of tick off, oh, that was the prepared zinger. did he bring it off? >> oh, yeah. >> the other thing is he's not very good at this. i mean, you know, i know they don't want him to be spontaneous because he'll say the wrong thing, but delivered a prepared funny line seems to me to be one of the hardest tasks probably even harder than telling us what's in his tax plan. >> as a journalist, joan, i want your view. suppose you're watching the debate as we all will be, everybody is going to be watching wednesday night, and you see what is obviously is prefab zinger that doesn't even sound like romney. it's more of a wisecrack which he's not particularly good at, something i would

about what he'd do, like how he would cut the medicare program to make it solvent. beyond the cuts that he's talked about. and when simpson-bowles says he needs much more dramatic cuts. so framing this as patriotism, it's about taxing the wealthy but not talking about where the more than people should sacrifice? >> well, first of all, economic patriotism, he was talking about specifically bringing jobs back to america. rebuilding our manufacturing sector so we're sending producting around the world stamped with made in the usa. and i think really rebuilding that middle class so that we are manufacturing things here, exporting things from here, and we're not rewarding those who ship jobs overseas. he's been incredibly specific. first of all, we have a deficit plan. it's a $4 trillion plan. it's got health care savings comparable to simpson-bowles. mitt romney doesn't have a deficit plan. he has a plan to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires. one thing that will be interesting wednesday if he'll finally explain how his math adds up. he has a $5 trillion tax cut, on top of a $5

of americans, the polling shows ryan's pick add medicare at front and center, especially in florida -- he has a problem -- >> i'm not arguing that. >> i don't think he's going to be able to avoid. i think you are going to get some substance. i think you need to get some personality. you need to get some spontaneity. i'm not sure either of these two guys is good at spontaneity. if you can fix spontaneity, you've achieved success in politics. >> here's one good piece of news for romney. whatever's happening in sort of the inside washington game, i saw a poll today, i think it was abc news said, 52% of americans expect obama to win. something like 25%, 30% expect romney to win. with the viewers, may not not -- maybe they won't all be watching. >> skewed polls. >> christie is saying, everything will change wednesday. everything will change. >> let me see what obama needs to be. obama has to make sure that he doesn't come off as sort of arroga arrogant, who are you to question me, the president of the united states? that never works. they are now equals in the eyes of the american people. >> you m
